Holy Communion Sunday

Scripture: As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take this and eat it, for this is my body.” And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.
Matthew 26:26-28 (NLT)
Application:
There are two sacraments, Holy Communion and Baptism. A sacrament is an outward sign of an inward divine work. In Holy Communion the bread we eat and the wine we drink symbolize Jesus’ body and blood given for us.
Luke 22:20, Jesus tells us that the cup is the “new covenant in My blood” and the Apostle Paul tells us that the Blood of Jesus forgives sins (Colossians 1:14; Ephesians 1:7).
While Jesus was on earth He was amazing, healthy, and full of life. For us, He gave His body to be broken and beaten and then torn on the Cross. On the Cross He took our sickness, disease, regret, shame, guilt, and sin. Why? So we can have abundant life, life to fullest, forgiven and whole. Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Peter 2:24 says by His stripes we are healed.
Sometimes we can all struggle with healing but there is a truth here that I pray we see… God is a just God, He is a God of order. If we are healed on earth or in Heaven- there is still a price for that healing and Jesus has paid the price. The sin had to be atoned for regardless of where we receive the blessing.
At Into The Harvest Ministries we believe that Jesus is spiritually present in the bread and the wine. EVERYTIME we come to The Table, at ITH, we aim to learn a new truth about Holy Communion. Today we recognize that when we come to The Table we receive the promises that are made to us in faith because of the work of Jesus on The Cross.
           What promises?
    1.    Forgiveness of sins (Matthew 26:28)
    2.    We are One Body; RELATIONSHIP (1 Corinthians 10:16-17)
    3.    Nourishment (John 6:35)
    4.    Strength, Growth, Perseverance, and Life (John 6:53-58)
Our decision to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior is the best decision EVER! Having a healthy body and mind comes in right behind salvation. The Table is Gods avenue to healing and wholeness in our triune being (spirit, soul, and body).
As we come to The Table we come aware of the Body of Christ and His love and tremendous thought toward us. He was willing for His body to be broken for our wholeness and His blood to be shed for our forgiveness. Wow!
This amazing love from Jesus gives us right standing before God, and we can now go boldly into Gods presence (Hebrews 4:16).
Prayer: Thank You, Jesus for the sacrifice You gave for us. We can live whole and forgiven because of Your great love for us and obedience to our Father. Open our eyes more and more each time we come to Your Table and soften our hearts more and more to Your love for us. We love You, Jesus. Amen.
